The Tibben/ Tibbens Family

Ann Margaret Tibbens (1754-1826) married Thomas Frederick (1751-1808) in 1774, making the Tibbens family the first to be associated with our Thomas Frederick.

Ann Margaret Tibbens was the daughter of John Tibbens and Catherine (Unknown). Ann Margaret Tibbens was born in Pa., and died on 28 Feb. 1826 in Columbiana County, Oh. at the age of 72. Her husband, Thomas Frederick, predeceased her by 18 years.

The Will of of Ann Margaret Tibbens’ father, John Tibbens is dated 9 Feb. 1796, and recorded in Court on 27 April 1813. That would put the death of John Tibbens in late 1812 – early 1813.

In his Will, John Tibben refers to himself as “John Tibben the Elder” and states he resides in Hanover Township, Dauphin County, Pa. (Dauphin County was created 4 March 1785 from part of Lancaster County.)

In his Will, John Tibben leaves his wife Catherine:

-a long list of household goods

-one cow

-50 pounds gold or silver

-plus any other goods or furniture she wants

-the right to live in his home, in his room, for the rest of her natural life

-rights to 1/3 of the garden, 10 bushels of wheat, apple cider, firewood, and a list of other items

to his son John Tibben, Jr.:

-all his plantation plus two tracts of land in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, that total 80 acres, these tracts adjoin lands of Adam Stiver, Valentine Shouffler, Jacob Tibben, and Swatarow Creek

-however, John must pay his father’s wife, Catherine, 388 pounds for the above two tracts of land in yearly payments

-50 pounds

– livestock and farm tools

– household goods that Catherine doesn’t want

-all of his money, except what is specifically granted in this Will

-all real and personal property not specifically granted to someone in the Will

Daughter Anameale or Annamile, wife of Henry Tubs or Dubs, gets 50 pounds (other records spell it “Dups”)

Daughter Margaret, wife of Thomas Frederick, 50 pounds to be paid 3 years after his decease

Daughter Catherine, wife of Jacob River, 38 pounds to be paid 2 years after his decease

Daughter Elizabeth, wife of Albert Rule, 50 pounds to be paid 5 years after his decease

6 grandchildren, children of his daughter Mary, deceased, a total of 50 pounds to be paid 6 years after his decease: John, Christian, Jacob, Michael, George, Catherine

4 grandchildren, children of his daughter Sabine, a total of 50 pounds to be paid 7 years after his decease:

J. Frederick, John Elizabeth, Catherine

(Sabine is not noted as being deceased. Maybe he forgot to note this, or maybe he had a falling out with Sabine or her husband?)

2 grandchildren of his daughter Barbara, deceased, 25 pounds each to be paid 8 years after his decease:

after the decease of his wife all he has given to her goes to his son John Tibben.
